It all began when my wife suddenly lost her ability to smell. Her nose was constantly blocked and filled with mucus that would not go away. What was even stranger was that she could not even sneeze. Her breathing felt heavy and never completely relieved. At night, she had difficulty sleeping because she had to breathe through her mouth. As a result, her sleep was restless and was often accompanied by fairly loud snoring. Seeing that her condition was increasingly affecting her daily activities, we decided to seek medical help.
We went to a general practitioner. After examining her, the doctor referred us to an ENT specialist. With hope in our hearts, we followed the recommendation. However, after being examined by the ENT specialist, we heard something that left us even more confused. The doctor said that my wife's case was quite unusual and rarely encountered. Many people suspected that the cause was sinusitis or nasal polyps, but there was still no definite diagnosis.
Our journey of treatment then began. We tried various approaches and visited several doctors. Some were highly recommended by many people because they were said to have successfully treated patients with similar complaints. There were also doctors whose treatment costs were quite expensive. But to me, my wife's health was worth more than anything else. As long as there was still hope for recovery, I would do everything I could.
Unfortunately, the various treatments we tried did not produce any significant results. My wife's condition remained unchanged. The ENT specialist even recommended further examinations, including scans, and suggested that surgery might be necessary if there was no improvement. Our extended family, especially my parents-in-law, also advised us to proceed with the surgery for a more certain chance of recovery. After carefully considering everything, we finally agreed that my wife would undergo surgery after the month of Ramadan ended.
Then Ramadan arrived. During the holy month, we stopped all medical treatments. We spent our days praying more, surrendering ourselves to Allah, and asking Him for healing. Although our hearts were still filled with worry, we tried to accept whatever would happen.
Then came the morning of Eid al-Fitr. As we were getting ready to perform the Eid prayer, I suddenly heard a fairly loud sneeze coming from inside the house. At first, I thought the sound had come from someone else. But when I turned around, I was shocked. It was my wife who had sneezed.
At that very moment, we realized that something extraordinary had happened. Her nose had returned to normal. All the mucus that had troubled her for months seemed to have disappeared just like that. Her breathing became clear, her sense of smell returned, and there was no longer any blockage forcing her to breathe through her mouth. From that day onward, she was able to sleep comfortably without any difficulty breathing.
I was truly speechless. It was difficult to find words to describe what we felt. After all the efforts, treatments, and the surgery that had already been planned, the healing came at a time when we least expected it. What remained was only a deep sense of emotion and gratitude.
That experience taught me that human beings are required to make every possible effort, but the final outcome always remains in Allah's hands. When every path seems closed and hope begins to fade, Allah can bring His help in ways we could never have imagined. My wife's healing became a reminder to me that nothing is impossible for Allah.
To this day, whenever I remember what happened, my heart is filled with profound gratitude and a stronger conviction that Allah's power will always surpass the limits of human ability.
